Judy Witmeyer

In 2013, after two life-changing events, my life did a 180.  Shortly thereafter, in May 2016, God placed me at BGBC as the administrative assistant.  During this time, I have reconnected with old friends, found new friends, and now I am part of this beautiful church family.  Sept. 2020, God gave me a daughter-in-love, my first girl, and another blessing in Sept. 2022, a precious granddaughter.  I want to share with you the pungent words given to me in 2013 – Do not put a question mark where God has placed a period.  Place your trust in God,  he will take you on a glorious journey.

What We Believe

Scripture

The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God’s revelation of Himself to man.  It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. Therefore, all Scripture is totally true and trustworthy.  All Scripture is a testimony to Christ, who is Himself the focus of divine revelation.  The Bible is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living.

God

There is one and only one living and true God.  The eternal God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being.  To Him we owe our highest obedience, reverence, and love.

Jesus

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. In His incarnation as Jesus Christ, He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.  Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men by dying on a cross.  He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death.  He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, fully divine.  It is the active presence of God in the world and in the hearts and lives of God’s people.  The Holy Spirit brings about conviction of sin and regeneration, or a new birth, in the lives of believers.  Also, the Holy Spirit empowers the Christian to live out his/her faith, provides assurance of salvation for the believer, and bestows upon every believer spiritual gifts for use in God’s ministry.  The Holy Spirit lives in every believer from the moment of salvation.  He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right.

Mankind

Man is the special creation of God, in His own image.  This means that men and women have dominion over the earth, they have the ability to choose right from wrong, and they have the opportunity to relate to God and to one another.  Because of their “free will” all people choose to sin against God and, therefore, are separated from God.  People cannot overcome their sin on their own in order to be reconciled with God. Rather, they must totally depend upon the saving power of God.

Salvation

Salvation is a gift from God to man.  Man can never make up for his sin by self-improvement or good works.  Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can man be saved from sin’s penalty.  Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith (More below).

The Church

A New Testament church is a local body of believers in Christ who gather together in order to carry out the mission of Christ on earth.  The purposes of the church are to build up the believers in their faith through worship, Bible study, and fellowship, and then to spread the Good News of Jesus and the love of Christ around the world through evangelism, ministry, and missions.  Every Christian is a minister, and every Christian has spiritual gifts to be used in the ministry of the church.  The Biblical ordinances of the church are believer’s baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

Baptism & the Lord’s Supper

The New Testament sets forth two specific “ordinances” for the church to observe:  The Lord’s Supper and Baptism.  These are both powerful, symbolic practices which Jesus instructed the church to carry out to remind us of His death, burial, and resurrection. One is primarily focused on building up the church (the Lord’s Supper) and the other is primarily targeted toward presenting the Gospel to the world (baptism).

Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water.  It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Saviour, the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus.

The Lord’s Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby members memorialize the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming.
