This Sunday we’re going to take the off ramp from Jesus’ words to those of the apostle Paul. In Philippians 2:14-15, Paul confronts us with the issue of complaining and arguing. I call it “griping”.

This “griping” thing will destroy relationships and tear churches apart. It is one of the church’s most acceptable sins.

As we unpack this issue, we will look at some Old Testament personalities who were not immune from some form of “pity-partying”. Join us this Sunday to discover how to “Get a Grip on Griping”.

I can recall comparing my family with other families. We were the only Catholic, blue collar, lower middle class family on the block. I was also the only one of my high school neighborhood friends whose parents had divorced.

I seemed to always reach the conclusion that my friend’s families were better than mine…at least they had normal families!

But, after a couple years of college, I began to understand that those neighborhood “Brady Bunch” families had their own issues.

It is true of families, churches, dating relationships and friendships…Everybody’s normal ‘till you get to know them!

This Sunday we’ll look at the biblical way to understand and accept people for who they are…how to Love Like Jesus.

This Sunday we begin a new series for the month of February called Love Like Jesus. With February being anchored by “Valentine’s Day”, [which I believe was created by the greeting card industry!] I thought we should take a look at love through Jesus’ eyes.

This Sunday we explore the “Economy of Love” based on Jesus encounter with w young man of great wealth who is willing to take an oral exam from Jesus in order to qualify for heaven.

By incorporating the passage from Mark chapter 12 where Jesus puts into play what we call “The Great Commandment”, we are challenged with what is the true antithesis of love – indifference.

I’ve saved the most difficult for last. I believe that if you and I are totally honest before God and each other – this subject of forgiveness is the sight of some of our most gut wrenching wrestling matches!

Don’t you just hate to hear someone say, “Well…you just have to forgive that person…because the bible says you have to!” Wouldn’t it be great if forgiveness was as simple as a higher form of denial?

The truth is we weren’t wired to forgive. That’s why Jesus made such a big deal about it. But he also knew that, perhaps, the biggest barrier to peace is an unwillingness to embrace the kind of forgiveness that he demonstrated.

This Sunday, we’re going to wrap up our 2012 PEACE series with the tough subject of forgiveness. If there is one thing I’ve learned, it is that “Forgiving Like Jesus” may well be the litmus test for becoming like Jesus.

Join us this Sunday at 8:36 and 11:00. It’s going to be interesting!

As I write this, I’ve been putting the finishing touches on the new website! If you haven’t already, please make sure to thank Ashley Mallory for his effort, support, and expertise in generating this new website for our church, and Greg Mack whose tireless enthusiasm made this possible. We have finally moved from a novice website to something we can really be proud of.

Interactive Blog. This site has many advantages over the last two including a cleaner look, easier management and updating of material, and a more interactive interface that allows the pastor (and several others) to communicate to the church through our BLOG and for readers to respond by signing up for an account on this site.

Online Donations. We will also shortly be implementing PayPal into the website via the DONATIONS tab at the top of the screen. The measure was recently passed through our January business meeting and we are working behind the scenes to set everything up.

Pastor’s Blog. Each Sunday, Pastor Greg will be posting a summary of his sermons up in the PASTOR’S BLOG which can be access which can be found by simply clicking the blog menu button.

Pictures, Video, and Podcasts. If you look at the menu bar, we have a podcast for each sermon, photo albums, and videos. If you see something you like and think would be enjoyed here on the website, please try to catch a video of it on your cell phone or camera and contact Joseph Pack. If you need help learning how to export things off your phone or electronic device, Pack will work with you. The same policy applies to photos; just let us know if you have something you would like uploaded to the site! If you see a photo that you would like removed, let us know and we’ll take it down ASAP.

Thanks to Greg Mack and Ashley Mallory for their tireless support and hard work in setting this new website up and thank YOU, congregation, for working to see the church move forward and improve itself so that it can serve God in the community and in the world better than ever before!

It took me a long time to understand that fear, in and of itself, is not a sin. In fact, I have realized, during my more impetuous moments, where a healthy fear likely saved my life!

Fear is a double edged sword.

It is a part of our normal human wiring, but can keep us from experiencing God’s peace. Psychologists were not the first to advocate facing our fears – Jesus had something to say about that long before self help books were written.

Come join us at 8:36 and 11:00 for part four of our 2012 PEACE series as we look at a bunch of scared disciples on a small boat in a big storm – and what Jesus teaches all of us about “Facing Fear” on the path to peace.

Pride is dangerous. In fact the bible regards pride as outright sin.

So how do you get a handle on pride? The bible makes it really clear that we will never experience the kind of peace that God has for us as long as pride is in the way. Pride has to be cut off like a diseased branch is pruned from a healthy tree.

This Sunday, we will take a hard look at 2 Chronicles 7:14, and discover that peace …or anything that God offers … is truly propositional. Come join us at 8:36 and 11:00 as we understand just what “Pruning Pride” is all about.
