Charlie grew up in Caroline County on his family farm where he gained much experience caring for animals, crop farming and learned the value of responsibility. He enjoyed sports in high school playing baseball and basketball on the high school teams. He was also very active in FFA still continuing his interest in farming. After high school, he took a job with the local telephone company. He served in the Army for three years. While in the army, he lived in South Carolina, Georgia and Texas and served thirteen months in Korea. Following his discharge from the Army, he returned to Caroline and married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Smith. He returned to the Telephone Company where he worked for thirty-nine years primarily in management positions. Following retirement, he assisted Sandra in building her Real Estate business. They have two children and three grandchildren who live in Hanover and Spotsylvania. He enjoys traveling, attending grandchildren’s sporting and school events, family outings and vacations and football and basketball games on TV.
He has served as Chairman of Deacons three terms, Building and Grounds Chairman, Chairman of Pastoral Search Committee and on the MAP Committee at BGBC. He has been serving on the Buildings and Grounds Committee for several years and this year returned to the Board of Deacons.
