Peace: Forgiving Like Jesus

I’ve saved the most difficult for last. I believe that if you and I are totally honest before God and each other – this subject of forgiveness is the sight of some of our most gut wrenching wrestling matches!

Don’t you just hate to hear someone say, “Well…you just have to forgive that person…because the bible says you have to!” Wouldn’t it be great if forgiveness was as simple as a higher form of denial?

The truth is we weren’t wired to forgive. That’s why Jesus made such a big deal about it. But he also knew that, perhaps, the biggest barrier to peace is an unwillingness to embrace the kind of forgiveness that he demonstrated.

This Sunday, we’re going to wrap up our 2012 PEACE series with the tough subject of forgiveness. If there is one thing I’ve learned, it is that “Forgiving Like Jesus” may well be the litmus test for becoming like Jesus.
